Government clamp down on illegal loggers

Three trucks loaded to the brim with wood have been impounded at the entrance of the glory drive near NNPC mega filling station in yenagoa as part of effort to curb and enforce the law against illegal logging and deforestation in Bayelsa State.

This enforcement action follows the state government’s ban on illegal logging activities in the oil rich state effective January 1,2025.

You will recall that the Bayelsa State governorment has recently announced total closure of the forest against any logging activities without due permission from the relevant quarters.

The government objective is to preserve the state forest and prevent unauthorized wood extraction and indiscriminate felling of trees like the avenga species such as the “ogbono”

Commissioner for environment in the state while reacting to the truck seizure emphasized the importance of the adherence to the governorment law , saying stringent measure will be adopted to get full compliance.
